Flat roofs collect an abundance of debris that can t be removed daily.

Drainage flat roof gutter.

A gutter system drains water away from your home s structure protecting siding windows doors and foundations from costly damage. Each of these systems has its own pros and cons. Gutters are the most commonly used and most cost effective drainage solution for flat roofs. Use this downspout extension to divert water away from the foundation or connect to drainage pipe and catch basin to control drainage.

There are a number of drainage options for flat roofs to combat ponding. There are three types of drain systems on a flat roof. The easiest way to remove debris from flat roofs and gutters is to use a handheld leaf blower. They catch rainwater as it rolls off the edge of the roof and divert the water into a downspout that dispenses it a safe distance from the foundation of the building.

Roof leveling compounds. Notice that the new drain extends through the shortest possible route to the building exterior where it is conducted to ground or to a storm drain. The flexible design easily bends and holds its shape and can be extended from 25 in. Inner drains are located in central areas of the roof and are connected to pipes underneath the roof that drain the water to a sewer.

There are three types of drain systems commonly used on flat roofs. Each of these systems can become clogged by debris. These can be used on large flat roofs as well as residential. During rainstorms this debris gets washed into the gutter trough and clogs it preventing proper drainage.

Using this method permits adding a drain at the roof s low point. Water moves from these drains often at the center of the roof and into an integral drainage system of pipes. Gutters are often a viable option for flat roofs directing water on the outside of the structure to downspouts. It is possible to add new roof drains to relieve ponding on a sagged flat roof as shown at left.

Most draining systems on flat roofs have a poor design or are not correctly installed. So often we find that inner drains are high on the roof causing water to pool around them. When installing gutters making sure you have all the right parts is key. A major maintenance issue shared between all types of roof drains is debris removal.

Inner roof drains are used on flat roofs and include a low section or channel that collects water and feeds it into a concealed drain that leads to an underground drainage system. The main benefit of inner drains is that the system is hidden from view. Featuring durable vinyl construction this extension can be buried bent or connected to additional sections.
