Through the years the tale of her brutality has grown and shifted and today it is difficult to discern fact from fiction in the story of delphine la laurie and her house of horrors. After his death delphine married her third and final husband a much younger doctor named leonard louis nicolas lalaurie. Madame delphine lalaurie is a once wealthy socialite known throughout new orleans later discovered to be a nefarious serial killer who tortured and murdered her black slaves.

Her love of hosting elegant parties is matched. On april 10 1834 a fire at the lalaurie mansion in new orleans louisiana leads to the discovery of a torture chamber where enslaved workers are routinely brutalized by delphine lalaurie. He was not often present in her day to day life and mostly left his wife to her own devices.
